Sustainable Cities and Communities
Out of all of the goals, this is the one that has caught my eye and interest soley for the fact of how it affects every single person in a community. By making a city and our communities as a whole more stable and with an eye for better infrastructure, we can plan for a better tomorrow and even avoid the problems that will inevitably come our way as a community from earthquakes to everyday problems of traffic. This SDG tackles it all. For myself I know very well how important it is to not only have but to make accessible public transit is. For a community it is fundamentally unrealistic for every person to have a car and to drive around everywhere to do everything and the more and more people that do this inevitable become the traffic that they complain about therefore designing solid public infrastructure and making it as available as humanily possible is a very workable issue. But this is not all this SDG tackles.
Target 11.7 in SDG is all about establishing Safe and Green Spaces in our communities. This can take many different forms from imporiving the saftey of our public parks to establishing new public gardens for the people who live nearby to be able to grow food of their own, encouraging social interaction and deepening bonds within the community itself. There truly is no way to value the importance of being able to bring a community closer together. What is certain is the fact that these spaces can and will make and city feel much more green and liveable. A place to not only live but thive together as a community.
Lastly I will touch on the goal of improving infrastructure in our cities. In this SDG the goal of making cities more resiliant to natural disasters is of the utmost importance. This is a life saving goal by making cities that are built to stricter regulations that are outlined in this SDG make cities and communites safer for all of the people who call these communities their home.
All in all, this SDG speaks to me because its goal is to make cities and communities more safe through infrastructure improvment and addition of green spaces to make these places, not just a place to live but a community for people to thrive and live more full lives. With proper structures put into place calamities become much more workable issues, which to me is a goal that is achieveable and makes me hopeful for the better communities of tomorrow.
