7 accessibility tools students can use
These tools are needed and should be used in classrooms today because of the variety of ways that they can help all students, not just those with disabilities. Students learn in different ways, and these tools can help those students understand and learn better than before.
1. Screen readers
Screen readers are typically used for students who have a visual impairment and are used to help read not only text, but also things like images, while some screen readers also convert the text into Braille using a braille display.
2. Text to speech
Text-to-speech takes text that's on screen and converts it into spoken audio. This is useful for students who struggle with reading the text on screen or those who have a visual impairment.
3. Speech to text
Speech to text allow the user to talk into a device or mic to convert their words into text. This can be used in many ways, like for someone who has trouble hearing during a lecture, they can have the words that the teacher is saying translated to text for them, or it can be used if someone can't type, and for those who have trouble speaking.
4. C-Pen Reader
The C-Pen Reader is a pen that can read printed text and read that text aloud in different languages. This is helpful to students with visual impairments, who can't understand the text, and students who are learning how to pronounce certain words.
5. Smartpens
Smartpens are used to record audio and can be used as a regular pen. These are helpful for almost every kind of student, being able to either record entire lessons or parts of lessons, so if a student doesn't remember a part of that lesson or doesn't understand a part of that lesson, they can go back and listen to it.
6. Zoom text
Zoom text is a program that allows the user to zoom into text. This can be helpful to students who need who need to either zoom in to read the text better or zoom in on the finer details of a project or post.
7. Grammarly
Grammarly is both a website and an app that everyone can download to help them double-check their grammar and sentences to help form more coherent and better sentences.
