 Virtual Reality In Education

Virtual Reality in education allows students from all around the world to experience anything as if they were really there. Today I used YouTube 360 and went along on a VR Spacewalk Experience.

After viewing the video, I realized how amazing this could be for students who are interested in the space program, as students from anywhere in the world could join in together.  This type of virtual reality could increase student engagement and student collaboration. Globally, teachers could assign VR field trips that students can explore and build shared responses on.

A sample could be for a grade level of 4th and 5th, where the students launch the video trip to the moon with another student from another country.  Then both students can explore, discuss daily life in the rocket, and create a presentation that can be shared with both classes they are in.

With that being said, there are some challenges; some countries and some districts may not have the funding to provide the devices and teacher training needed. Fortunately, it seems that YouTube 360 can be utilized without expensive devices.
